Ballet Theatre of Ohio was founded in 1993 by Artiustic Director, Christine Meneer. For the past 15 years, BTO has presented professional quality full-lenth classical ballets at the historic Akron Civic Theatre in downtown Akron, Ohio.

Nutcracker, performed every holiday season and other full-length ballets including Cinderella, Coppelia and Sleeping Beauty, presented each spring attract the largest ballet audience in Northeast Ohio. Collaborations with other area organizations such as the Akron Public Schools, the Akron Symphony Orchestra and Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens have enabled the company to educate, enrich and entertain the Akron community. The decline of professional ballet in Northeast Ohio inspired Meneer to carry on the ballet tradition that her mentor, Heinz Poll, started in Akron nearly forty years ago. Building upon past success with a solid foundation of a core audience and fueled with a passion to reach out into the community and to keep the arts alive, CBT hired professional dancers, changed its name and became a professional ballet company, Ballet Theatre of Ohio.

Audiences will continue to be entertained by the annual Nutcracker and full-length classical spring productions. Additionally, Ballet Theatre of Ohio will present repertory performances and extensive educational outreach programs for the youth and the Akron area community.
