What People are Saying
In the way that audiences flock to The Nutcracker every year, so are we again and again drawn to the power of Sleeping Beauty. But even if you've seen this classic ballet - considered to be one of the greatest produced by Imperial Russia - you likely haven't seen the Ballet Theatre of Ohio's magical version coming to the Akron Civic Theatre on May 5 and 6. Artistic Director Christine Meneer has based her choreography on the legendary choreographer Marius Petipa, but she takes things one step further by adding her own blend of creative ingenuity and subtle humor to make this ballet enjoyable for adults and children. Mimi Vanderhaven - Mimi Vanderhaven Magazine The evening's final performance; Meneer's "Beyond the Stars" brought down the house with the contemporary classical music of William Joseph's "Within" and spectacular eye candy in the form of costumes by Italian designer Christina A.Giannini. Meneer proved herself on track to be a worthy successor to the late Poll. Bill Yurgen - Mimi Vanderhaven Magazine LOVED the show and I have heard many compliments and accolades. I have never seen "Adagio" danced better and "Beyond the Stars" was sensational - loved the dancing, costumes, set and lighting and especially the humor. Jody Miller - Bath Country Journal |
